Fausto Bertasa is an Italian artist whose work explores the visual codes of contemporary reality, from barcodes to painted words, examining the world of media—from international newspapers to the internet, from PC keyboards to mouse pads—with a particular focus on the messages conveyed by new technologies and digital communication.
Despite the variety of media used (neon, photography, sculpture, video, drawings, installations), Bertasa’s research has consistently centred on painting.
In his paintings, Bertasa develops concepts rooted in contemporary social and cultural contexts, reflecting on the nature of mass communication tools, whose messages simultaneously reach vast audiences, generating amplification and redundancy of information in everyday life. This creates a homogeneous and ephemeral collective imagination, increasingly unable to distinguish between truth and narrative.
Since the 1980s, throughout the 1990s and to the present day, Fausto Bertasa has exhibited in numerous Italian and international galleries, forming part of prestigious collections in public and private spaces in Italy, Europe and worldwide.
